for the string instrument could i do a plank of wood and put different sized rubberbands around it?

oh and two of the instruments must be able to make different sounds.

The sound can be heard VERY clearly from GW Parkway and seems to “go off” at regular intervals. It sounds like some kind of air cannon.

I’m in the pit section (or front ensemble, if you want to be technical) of my high school marching band, and we recently got new yarn mallets. The problem is, they’re white, and they get dirty really fast. Is it possible to clean yarn or cord mallets? Does this method also work for cleaning bass drum beaters? Also, what brand of mallets do you recomend? I heard Vic Firth is the best, and that I should stay away from Promark.
